It will be a fun Halloween
In Namibia we do not
really celebrate Halloween, but it is always fun to just dress up and go out,
so why not take a trip to the cinema.
There are currently a
few fantasy and horror movies playing at Ster-Kinekor Namibia and the latest
one is a lot of fun. Goosebumps 2: A
Haunted Halloween is a family movie and it allows everyone to have some
spooky fun.
The second instalment in
the Goosebumps series is fun, quirky and funny, but it lacks the flare of the
original. Jack Black once again returns R. L. Stine and that makes the story
something of a throwback in many ways.
I enjoyed the movie
and I think other movie-goers will as well, unless you look too much into it.
Just get your tickets, sit-back and enjoy it as a family. The Goosebumps series
of books have been around for a long time and this movie pays perfect homage to
them.
In the film Sonny and
Sam meet Slappy, a mischievous talking dummy from and unpublished Goosebumps
book. Slappy has plans to start a family and he kidnaps Sonny’s mother and
brings some of his ghoulish friends to life – just in time for Halloween. The
town becomes overrun by monsters, witches and other strange creature. Sonny
then teams up with his sister, Sam and a neighbour to save their mum and stop
Slappy.
My Verdict
The movie is
family-friendly, which makes it fun. Just do not go into the cinema and expect
the next best horror movie. The story is not perfect, the visuals are okay-ish
and the characters are not well-developed, but overall the movie still falls
into an entertaining category.
My Rating: 6.2/10 –
Good
