Preying on the Enemy
Mister J. is out of
the picture, but nothing is going to stop Harley Quinn from living her best
life on her own.
One of DC’s most
popular TV, movie and comic book characters is back and she’s ready to take on
the world without the help from the Joker. Harley Quinn teams up with a few
heroes in Birds of Prey and it is a
show not to be missed.
The latest instalment
in the DCEU might be one of the best in the franchise. It tramples on its
predecessor Suicide Squad and gives
Margot Robbie enough screen time to shine as Harley Quinn. Suicide Squad might have been a snoozefest, but at least it laid
the ground work for this wonderful character.
After the success of
last year’s Joker, DC and Warner Bros
thought it might be a great idea to do another R-Rated movie and it definitely
works. There really was not other way to tell the story of these powerful women
in Birds of Prey.
Robbie and Ewan
McGregor, as Black Mask, steal the show. Their performances make up for a
rather weak screenplay. Directory Cathy Yan direction also makes for a stunning
movie. Add the incredible effects and visual style and you have a movie that is
one to remember.
It's open season on
Harley Quinn when her explosive breakup with the Joker puts a big fat target on
her back. Unprotected and on the run, Quinn faces the wrath of narcissistic
crime boss Black Mask, his right-hand man, Victor Zsasz, and every other thug
in the city. But things soon even out for Harley when she becomes unexpected
allies with three deadly women -- Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya.
My Verdict
Thank goodness we do
not have comic book movie fatigue yet and this movie proved the genre still has
many stories to tell. It might not be the best or first R-Rated superhero
movies, but it is definitely one of favourites. It is a movie not to be missed
out on and unfortunately this is not one for the whole family.
