I miss Comic Con

Comic Con Africa is now behind me and three weeks later I wish I can go back to learn some more and have some more fun.
CCA was the opportunity of a lifetime and I got to be part of it. Not only did I get to take part in all the geeky stuff, I also got to meet a few of my heroes. I got to hangout with filmmakers, comic book writers and artists, cosplayers, artists, videogame makers and so many others.
The best thing about the event was that I got to learn. As a young writer and journalist, I had to the opportunity to discover new paths I can take my career on. I got some clarity on what it meant to be a writer in the modern world and I got to explore different mediums of writing.
As a geek I was totally freaking out! I got to take pictures with WWE Championship belts, I had “coffee” on the Friends couch, I got to do a voice-over for Peter Griffin and I got to meet Spider-Man.
It was all my childhood and adult dreams all rolled up into one and I still cannot believe I was there. Thanks to CCA I am finally willing to share more of my work with the rest of the world and I have so many new ideas that I just cannot wait for everyone else to see.
The Movie Guy will no longer be my only platform to geek out on. It will just be where I share my favourite and weirdest pop culture experiences. Thanks to CCA the world will soon know more about The Movie Guy and the guy behind him.
Four days of geeky fun can really change a person’s perspective of a lot of things and that my friends, is a good thing. So keep your eyes on The Movie Guy to see more about what I have planned for the future. I will return to Comic Con Africa next year and will hopefully also be part of the new Comic Con Cape Town in May 2020.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me on this journey and who made my trip a possibility. My sponsors were: Comic Con Africa, Tafel Lager, R + R Importers, Claire’s Photography, Brandon van Wyk, Barry de Klerk, Anna de Klerk, Rayno Julius, Cinty Swartz, Patricia de Klerk, Deon Maasdorp, Madré Claassen, Nien Maasdorp, Danvore Louw, Mia de Klerk and Cathleen de Klerk.
