A Pain in the Past
The past is something
a lot of us want to forget, unfortunately for Henry Brogan his past is catching
up to him.
Will Smith’s Gemini Man was supposed to be this
cinematic hit; everyone was looking forward to it. After so long we were
finally going to see a movie that has been in development hell for nearly two
decades and Smith was going to take the lead on it.
Unfortunately the
script probably had to remain in hell, because all it was good for is the
garbage bin. The movie looked great and I was hoping it would feel great too,
but it falls short of being a big action flick.
I cannot blame will for
the movie’s flop; quite frankly his acting was one of the film’s few
highlights. He did his best trying to carry the weight of big budget movie. His
acting as both leads is superb and it gets me excited for Bad Boys For Life.
Director Ang Lee
probably thought he was going to give the world a masterpiece when he decided
to shoot at 120 fps, but nobody wants to see garbage at a higher frame rate.
Okay, maybe garbage is a strong word, but the move really disappointed me.
I guess apart from the
bad script, bad direction, bad plot and mediocre CG, there is probably some
good to the film. The rest of the cast was also excellent, they gave it their
best and it shows. Some of the action pieces and visuals really stand-out. In
hindsight the film might be bad, but to some it might be worth the watch.
In Gemini Man Henry Brogan is an elite
51-year-old assassin who's ready to call it quits after completing his 72nd
job. His plans get turned upside down when he becomes the target of a
mysterious operative who can seemingly predict his every move. To his horror,
Brogan soon learns that the man who's trying to kill him is a younger, faster,
cloned version of himself.
My Verdict
The movie this not
live up to its initial hype. It struggles a lot to bring to life what could
have been another big break for Will Smith. Overall it is definitely one of the
most mediocre films of the year, but it might be fun for some Will Smith or
action movie fans. I can recommend as a movie to watch when there is nothing
else left.
My Rating: 4.0 out of
10 – A Failure
