Explore the jungle
Today is day two of the week of
reviews is upon us and this time around we will look at a movie that has been
out for a while now, Dora and the Lost
City of Gold.
It is time to explore
the cinema a little with this “made for children” movie. Let’s be honest this movie
is something the whole family can enjoy. And that is great, because you don’t
feel awkward when Dora asks you a question.
Personally I loved the
movie’s humour. It keeps its cartoonish feel and adds some real world flare to
it. The action scenes are also done really well, it is kind of like an Indiana
Jones movie for the whole family, including your 2-year-old who so desperately wants
to learn Spanish.
The casting director
definitely did an awesome job. Isabela Moner as Dora was the perfect choice.
She brings childhood innocence, optimism and good singing into the role. She
was hands down the best part of the film.
I was surprised when I
heard that Danny Trejo had been cast as Boots. I mean badass Danny as a blue
monkey? Seems like a miss, but it was not. The scene where Dora finally speaks
to Boots is insightful and yet funny. The rest of the casting was also done
really well.
Overall the film might
not be entertaining for many, but it will definitely get the children excited
to see a live action version of the Dora the Explorer. Believe me, they keep
telling us she is an explorer, probably one of the things I found the most
annoying.
Having spent most of
her life exploring the jungle, nothing could prepare Dora for her most
dangerous adventure yet -- high school. Accompanied by a ragtag group of teens
and Boots the monkey, Dora embarks on a quest to save her parents while trying
to solve the seemingly impossible mystery behind a lost Incan civilization.
My Verdict
Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a fun adventure movie for the whole family
and can easily turn into a guilty pleasure. It is like High School Musical with
a lot more adventure and less singing. I enjoyed it and I know my nephews and
nieces will love it. So plan a family day and go watch Dora on the silverscreen.
My Rating: 8.3 out of
10 – Love it!
