Good meets bad
Being a tween is a
confusing part of life; you’re stuck between wanting to be cool like a teenager
and holding on to your childhood memories.
Good Boys perfectly portrays all of this. The kids in the movie make me think back
to my childhood, my first kiss, my first beer, my first party and my first
crush. Everything about the movie is just so relatable; you might actually think
it was written by tweens.
The three lead actors
are outstanding in their respective roles. Everything depicted by the
characters makes so much sense that it might just be real. The main theme of
the movie is boys preparing for their first kiss.
Oh, how wonderful and
exciting a first kiss is. The movie does get a little a vulgar at times, so
please remember, THIS IS NOT A KIDS MOVIE. Good
Boys is obviously aimed at getting a few laughs, but the comedy comes from
its adult themes.
I literally couldn’t
stop laughing from the beginning to the end. The young actors out did
themselves and everything was so believable. The storyline is one of the best I
have seen in years from a coming-of-age movie. Think back to John Hughes and
you get exactly that, but with a modern twist.
It isn’t without its
faults, there are some scenes that might really disturb certain moviegoers, but
most are played for laughs. The movie doesn’t go too far however, just staying
a little south of the cringe line.
Invited to his first
kissing party, 12-year-old Max asks his best friends Lucas and Thor for some
much-needed help on how to pucker up. When they hit a dead end, Max decides to
use his father's drone to spy on the teenage girls next door. When the boys lose
the drone, they skip school and hatch a plan to retrieve it before Max's dad
can figure out what happened.
My Verdict
Once again, this movie
was not made for children and has a 16 rating. But if you’re mature enough and
need a laugh, then Good Boys might be
the one you need to watch. There are not many good comedy movies these days, but
this one really impressed me. So go to Ster-Kinekor and get your tickets today.
My Rating: 8.4 out of
10 – Love it!
