Tales of horror
Ever since I was child I loved horror. I remember watching reruns of
Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of Dark and I absolutely adored it.
Seeing Scary Stories to Tell in
the Dark make it to the silverscreen is a dream come true. I’m still in awe
of all the wonderful and scary childhood memories it brings back and I can’t
wait for the rest of the world to enjoy this masterpiece.
The movie perfectly translates some of the horror stories from the book
series to the big screen. From the moment the movie started I knew I was going
to enjoy it. Book adaptations are not always done well, but director André
Øvredal outdid himself.
Unfortunately like most horror or major Hollywood productions the movie
is not completely perfect. It has heart, it has soul, it has horror, it has
drama, but it lacks character development. I know a lot of people go to the
movies to connect to the characters, but this is not that kind of movie.
It really is fun to watch and the actors really did the best with what
they got and they absolutely nailed it. Hopefully the writers and producers
will look to the improved the screenplay if we get a sequel. I honestly hope we
get a sequel; there are still so many stories from the books that I would like
to see in a movie.
The shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large in the small town of
Mill Valley for generations. It's in a mansion that young Sarah Bellows turns
her tortured life and horrible secrets into a series of scary stories. These
terrifying tales soon have a way of becoming all too real for a group of
unsuspecting teens who stumble upon Sarah's spooky home.
My Verdict
If you like horror movies that are just scary enough and not gory or
dark, then this might just be to you. Actually this movie is perfect for all
horror fans. So go to Ster-Kinekor today and buy your tickets, you will not be
disappointed.
My Rating: 7.8 out of 10 – Really Good
