The End of an Era
The X-Men we have come
to love makes their final appearance in Dark
Phoenix and it is not a satisfying sent-off.
The franchise started
two decades ago and started a new era of what the superhero movie can be.
Fast-forward to the present and you can see what a big impact the X-Men film
franchise had on comics and movies.
Unfortunately it wasn’t
the swansong we have been hoping for. The movie was supposed to adapt the Dark
Phoenix saga, but it falls sort of its source material. Yes, the Phoenix Force
plays an important role in the movie, but not in the way it is supposed to.
Other than that I
think the final movie in the franchise is entertaining. The lead cast once
again prove that excellent acting can save sloppy writing. Michael Fassbender,
James McAvoy and Sophie Turner perfectly portray their respective characters.
The story isn’t completely
lost and that is thanks to an action-packed third act. The movie’s main battle,
in my opinion, is one of the best choreographed and CG fights of the franchise.
I literally got goose bumps.
Thank goodness I went
in with low expectations after reading the bad reviews, but I was surprised to
see the movie wasn’t that bad. As a fan I loved it and as a movie reviewer I
can say fairly enjoyed it without being too critical.
As I said before, it
is not the sent-off we wanted or hoped for, but it does conclude the franchise in
a good way. I now look forward to seeing the mutants join the Avengers and
Inhumans.
uring a
life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that
transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with
this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean
spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to
destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and
emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men
movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face
their most devastating enemy yet -- one of their own.
My Verdict
The movie is
blockbuster fun; just don’t go in expecting and Avengers: Endgame kind of ending. It has its faults and the
reshoots probably ruined the overall story, but it is not a complete let-down.
So give it a shot, you might just be entertained by it.
My Rating: 6.2 out of
10 – Good
