A Cold Day in Summer
In 2017 Liam Neeson
was ready to hang up his particular set of skills and move away from action
movies; fast-forward to today he is still kicking it.
Cold Pursuit is Neeson like we have never seen him before. He is still the tough and
skilful sixty-something-year-old from the Taken
franchise, but with new ways to bring down criminals. The star brings a new
flare to the scene and proves that he is not too old yet.
The movie is based on
a Norwegian film called, In Order of Disappearance (Kraftidioten) and both are
directed by Hans Petter Moland. Moland does an amazing job in is Hollywood
debut and so does Neeson in translating a Norwegian story to the whole world.
Cold Pursuit has decent amount of dark humour moments, so it might not be for
everyone. I on the other hand enjoyed it. The comedy mixed with the dark and
gruesome action proves that gritty and edgy movies still have a place on the
silver screen.
The film succeeds
where so many others easily fail; it gives us great characters with amazing
arcs, plus action sequences that will long be remembered. It is however not without
flaws. Some people might be freaked out by the movies humour and darkness,
while others might not find the main character relatable. It is still something
I enjoyed watching.
Neeson stars as Nels
Coxman's, whose quiet life as a snowplow driver comes crashing down when his
beloved son dies under mysterious circumstances. His search for the truth soon
becomes a quest for revenge against a psychotic drug lord named Viking and his
sleazy henchmen. Transformed from upstanding citizen to coldblooded vigilante,
Coxman unwittingly sets off a chain of events that includes a kidnapping, a
series of deadly misunderstandings and a turf war between Viking and a rival
boss.
My Verdict
Cold Pursuit came out at just the right time; it proves that cinema can still offer
diversity, even if it is not a film for everyone. This movie is something I
know I want to re-watch. I just simply enjoyed the action and all the fun that
went with it.
My Rating: 8.1/10 – Love
it!
