The Grinch stole Christmas, again!
I love Dr. Seuss, all
the playful rhymes and colourful characters made me fall in love with the
stories, but The Grinch has always been one of favourites.
In 2000 my dreams came
true when I finally got to see The Grinch on the big screen and it was magical.
Jim Carrey took the roll, made it his own and to this day it is still a classic
Christmas movie for many of us.
When I heard that
Benedict Cumberbatch was cast in the animated remake, I was in the seventh
heaven filled with excitement. Cumberbatch is one of the best actors on TV and
in movies today. He gave the role new life, charm and weirdness.
The movie is fun,
witty and the animation is breathtaking. I get the sense that all the actors
enjoyed their time during the recording sessions and they work so well
together. The movie is definitely a great way to introduce Dr. Seuss and The
Grinch to the younger generation, but that does not mean we cannot enjoy
either.
It is great movie, but
not perfect. It does not add more to the source material and to the characters,
which means not a lot creativity went into the story. These are just some of
the things that can easily be ignored by the general movie-goer.
My Verdict
The movie is fun to
watch, although it could have been better. I personally enjoyed the cast and
the story as a whole. It is one of the must watch Christmas movies of 2018. So
make sure you get your ticket, before your Christmas gets stolen.
My Rating: 7.2/10 –
Good
