A fish out of water
This year has brought
us a bunch of really cool superhero movies, but none is as cool (literally) as Aquaman.
Arthur Curry finally
made his solo movie debut and what an awesome debut it was. Talking to fish is
not the only thing the hero can do, there is so much more to the story and character
which actually makes him a total badass.
So what if the
character is different from the comics, they changed him for the better. He is
no longer the bud of the joke; he is actually a fully heroic character with
more depth than most of the DC Extended Universe films.
Yes, it is not the
perfect film, but it is really entertaining. It is funny, filled with action,
drama and it brings new life to the superhero movie genre. The visuals have
also been upgraded, but they are still not as great as I hope. It falls into
the trap of an easily forgotten villain, but at least Black Manta still has a
lot of potential.
The movie is fun; I
mean, who would not want to see Atlanteans ridding a shark or an oversized
seahorse. Atlantis itself is a spectacle to be seen, it takes the audience to a
place they only wish they could visit.
Once home to the most
advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater
kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal,
Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people -- and then the surface
world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm's half-human, half-Atlantean brother
and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counsellor Vulko, Aquaman
must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as
protector of the deep.
My Verdict
The movie is not
perfect, but it is an awesome film to end the year with. I love Jason Momoa as
Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera is a beautiful sight for sore eyes. Definitely go check out Aquaman while it is still on the silver screen.
My Rating: 7.5/10 –
Really Good
