Spies have to lie
I always imagined
being spy meant you will live a lonely life, but characters like James Bond and
Johnny English made it all seem fun.
I guess in a way you
get to see more places and that is exactly what Rowan Atkinson does in the
Johnny English franchise. The long awaited third film in the series finally
arrived in theatres and I think it was worth the wait.
Everyone who grew up
in the late 1980s and 1990s know Mr Bean and that is probably why Johnny English Strikes Again will be
such a hit. The character embodies Atkinson’s Mister Bean, but also James Bond.
It took the production company 7 years to bring back the character.
If you are planning to
go see it, then make sure your ready to exercise your stomach muscles. The
action-comedy is filled with humour and scenes that will forever run through
your mind. Atkinson once again at his best and that might make you miss the
movie’s flaws.
The movie is poorly
written and does not deliver all the charm of its predecessors, but that can
easily be missed. I for one watched the film as a fan and not a critic; this
helps me relate to the characters and the audience. Everyone seemed to enjoy
it, although some forgot to bring their laugh along.
In the movie Johnny
must return out of retirement after a cyber attack reveal the identities of all
active undercover agents in Britain. He is now the service’s last hope to take
down the hacker. As a man with few skills and analogue methods, Johnny English
must overcome the challenges of modern technology to make this mission a
success.
My Verdict
I loved the film; it
brings something different to the theatre. It also made me miss my childhood a
little more. It definitely is a must-watch movie, even if you do not enjoy
action films. Just ignore the flaws and enjoy what Mister Bean, I mean what
Johnny English can offer you.
Rating: 6.5/10 – Good
