He is back
Arnie is back to
terminate, but in a slightly underwhelming way. Terminator: Dark Fate does however bring new life to the franchise.
The Terminator franchise
has been rebooted several times and this time it just might work. The movie follows
the formula of the first one, protecting the person who is important to the
future of humanity.
This might not be as
great as the first two movies in the series, but it is the best one in years.
Thank goodness James Cameron came back to produce, but I do not think he had
the biggest say in the way forward.
Tim Miller was the
perfect choice as the director and the new casts really complements the
returning actors like Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movie means
that every film set after Terminator 2: Judgement Day takes place in an
alternate reality.
In the new reality
things have changed a lot, the terminators are more advance and even humans can
be advanced. This changes the narrative of the story and allows room for more
sequels if the film is successful.
The movie focuses more
on story than character development, maybe their hoping to develop the
characters more in the future. Also do not expect two hours of complete action,
there are some quiet moments between exploding scenes.
I personally did not
like most of the CG, since there are movies with lower budgets that have better
“computer generated characters”. The action scenes are however awesome to put
it mildly. The fight choreography and the explosions are fun, a lot of fun.
The one thing that
pushes the movie from a mediocre blockbuster to a good one is the fact that we
once again get to see Arnie in action as the Terminator. Hamilton’s Sarah
Connor is also one badass character; she is hands-down my favourite part of the
movie.
In Mexico City, a
newly modified liquid Terminator -- the Rev-9 model -- arrives from the future
to kill a young factory worker named Dani Ramos. Also sent back in time is
Grace, a hybrid cyborg human who must protect Ramos from the seemingly
indestructible robotic assassin. But the two women soon find some much-needed
help from a pair of unexpected allies -- seasoned warrior Sarah Connor and the
T-800 Terminator.
My Verdict
While it is nowhere as
great as the first two Terminator movies, it makes up for the lackluster sequels
and reboots. It is a fun popcorn flick, with great action sequences and some
good nostalgic moments. This one is for all the 80s and 90s kids out there, so
make sure you go watch it.
My Rating: 7.8 out of
