Say My Name, Say My Name

It is finally happening, the wizard, Shazam! called me to the Rock of Eternity to bestow on me his powers, but I unfortunately I am too old.
The new DCEU film, Shazam! is what I’ve been waiting for. Warner Bros. finally gave us a superhero movie that’s relatable, light-hearted, fun, weird and filled with action. At times you wonder how this movie can be related to the darker MoS, BvS and Justice League.
I can honestly say that I left the theatre with so much joy, that I forgot I even had a bad day. Sure the movie has minor plot holes, but they are so hard to spot through all the fun the characters are having.
Zachary Levi as the titular hero perfectly embodies the spirit of a 14-year-old and proves that being a hero means you can have so fun along the way. Asher Angel as Billy Batson was also a perfect for his role. Jack Dylan Grazer is a fun sidekick and one who knows what it can be like to be a superhero.
Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, played by Mark Strong, is a great foe for the hero, but easily forgotten. Luckily, this might not be the last time we get to see him on screen. The movie also teases that the Justice League might rise again (hopefully it will be a lot more awesome).
Shazam! Is a movie for everyone, my three-year-old nephew will enjoy it and my fifty-something-year-old dad will enjoy it. So do not miss out to what might be one of the best blockbusters of 2019.
We all have a superhero inside of us – it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14-year-old Billy Batson’s case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do – have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he’ll need to aster them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam’s magical abilities.

My Verdict
In my opinion this might be the best DCEU film and the best DC film since The Dark Knight. It is a whole lot of fun and something that I can watch on repeat. So do not go into the theatre expecting a doom and gloom kind of film, this movie speaks to the heart and makes you wish Shazam! was part of the DCEU from the start.
My Rating 9.7/10 – Almost Perfect
