Blade Runner 2049, the review
The new Blade Runner is a sci-fi masterpiece, it
is something any geek would love and it is the perfect sequel to the original
movie.
No, blade
runner is not about ice-skating or Oscar Pistorius, it is something much better
than a real life drama. This film is the peak of the science fiction genre and
it pays homage to all others that came before it.
The film is
a sequel to the original Blade Runner,
which was released in 1982. Many might not remember the original, but it has a
large cult following. The best thing about 2049
is seeing Harrison Ford back in action.
Set thirty
years after the original film, the story depicts a replicant (android) blade
runner named K (Ryan Gosling), who discovers the remains of a once-pregnant replicant.
To prevent a possible war between species, K is secretly tasked with finding
the child and destroying all evidence related to it, leading him to discover
that the child bears a connection to missing blade runner Deckard (Harrison
Ford).
So a film
filled with action, androids (not the cell phone interface), futuristic
machines and an awesome storyline is exactly what you get. In a year of
sequels, this has to be the best one yet and it makes no mistakes revisiting
the sci-fi we first saw in the 1980s.
As a
self-professed geek, this film is something that will always be something I can
get behind, although I probably won’t watch it again soon. This mostly due to
its super long running time; 2049
runs for a staggering 163 minutes and definitely qualifies as one of the
longest movies of 2017.
The movie
has other flaws, but they can easily be forgiven by how great the characters
are developed and how amazing the CG is in the film. This movie might just make
you want to build a time machine and visit the events of both Blade Runner films. In my opinion 2049 is a must see. I’ll give it 8.6 out
of 10.
