Local Movie to Stream Globally
Baxu and the Giants
will be available to stream from tomorrow, just a day before Namibia celebrates
30 years of independence.
The multi-award
winning local short film tells the story of how rhino poaching triggers social
change in rural Namibia – seen through the eyes of a nine-year-old girl.
Directed and co-written by Florian Schott, the movie is an eye opener for all
Namibians and non-Namibians.
Girley Jazama co-wrote and co-produced the movie and
Andrew Botelle joined Schott and Jazama as producer. Baxu and the Giants has
premiered in ten countries and at over 20 Film Festivals. During its international
run, it won the award for Best Foreign Narrative at the San Francisco Independent
Short Film Festival in USA.
It also won two
international Cinematography Awards and two awards at the Knysna Film Festival
in South Africa. In Namibia it won three Namibian Theatre- and Film Awards,
including Best Female Actor for 10-year-old, Camilla Jo-Ann Daries.
Schott also presented to
movie to over 500 learners in Los Angeles as part of the Pan African Film
Festival and the RapidLion Film Festival in Johannesburg, this is where the
movie was nominated for ‘Best Humanitarian Film’.
In addition to
screenings outside of Namibia, Legal Assistance started showing to film to
thousands of learners locally. MaMoKoBo Video & Research is also busy with bringing
the movie to all Namibians via their mobile screenings, which is done in
partnership with the Save the Rhine Trust and the Ministry of Environment and
Tourism.
