The downside to The Upside
The Bryan Cranston and
Kevin Hart comedy-drama finally hit theatres and it wasn’t what audiences
expected at all.
The Upside, based on French film, The Intouchables,
which was itself inspired by the life of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. Fans of both
actors were hoping to see the two actors turn the true story into something and
relatable, but unfortunately it does not resonate with everyone.
The actors have great chemistry;
the casting director definitely went the right route with Cranston and Hart. Their
performances are the only thing that saves the movie from being a complete
flop. The plot is predictable and in some cases a cliché, but still fun to
watch.
Do not go into the theatre
expecting the comedy of the century, but thankfully you will not leave
completely disappointed. The film has redeeming qualities, which most people
will likely pick up on. I personally enjoyed certain scenes and story elements.
The movie is good enough for a relaxed Sunday.
Phillip is a wealthy
quadriplegic who needs a caretaker to help him with his day-to-day routine in
his New York penthouse. He decides to hire Dell, a struggling parolee who's
trying to reconnect with his ex and his young son. Despite coming from two different
worlds, an unlikely friendship starts to blossom as Dell and Phillip rediscover
the joy of living life to the fullest.
My Verdict
Thanks to the lead
actors chemistry the movie isn’t a total bust. It has its fun and light
moments, but not enough to make the film memorable. I will still definitely
recommend that everyone who is a fan of either Cranston or Hart, check it out.
My Rating: 6.2/10 – Good
