The Best is Yet to Come

Last year was great for Hollywood, and this year looks to be even better. Some of the most anticipated films of 2019 are sequels and remakes we have all been patiently waiting for.

Superheroes will once again rule the silver screen this year, but there is more to cinema than men and women in supersuits and spandex. Today we are going to look at ten of the most anticipated movies of 2019 and I really hope your most anticipated movie made the list.

10. Glass
M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and Unbreakable sequel is probably the first blockbuster of 2019. After the twists of Split, fans will be looking forward to seeing a darker take on the superhero genre. Bruce Willis, James McAvoy and Samuel L Jackson returns to give us something that we might never expect.

9. Godzilla: King of the Monsters
What’s more awesome than oversized creatures battling each other, while humanity freezes in awe? In my opinion, probably nothing. In this movie Godzilla collides with Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. Who will be left standing? We will just have to wait and see. This film will also the ground for Godzilla vs. Kong next year.

8. Shazam!
DC finally realised that darker comic book movies aren’t always fun. Wonder Woman and Aquaman proved that their cinematic universe can still be saved. Hopefully the Zachary Levi led superhero-flick Shazam will be as light-hearted and funny as shown in the trailers. In the movie a 14-year-old kid is given the power of Shazam by an ancient wizard. That already sounds awesome.

7. Captain Marvel
Just another superhero movie? Yeah, but this one is special. This will be Marvel’s first female led superhero movie.  Brie Larson will take centre stage as the MCU’s most powerful character yet, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Set in the 1990s the movie will take audiences on an adventure they never expected and hopefully it will be another hit for the MCU.

6. Us
Jordan Peele is helming another horror film and like Get Out this seems to be another award-worthy movie. Starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston duke as two parents who take their children to a their beach house. But as the night comes, shocking visitors arrive. I personally hope this will be another unforgettable horror movie.

5. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Quentin Tarantion is hoping to strike gold again with a film focusing on the Tate-LaBianca murders and Charles Manson. Led by a stellar cast Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, this movie definitely looks like it will be a sure hit. Tarantino will once again make a movie that is unique to his directing style.

4. Spider-Man: Far From Home
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is back and this time he will be exploring the world. In this film he will team up with S.H.I.E.L.D  and newcomer Mysterio to take on the Elementals. What makes this movie interesting is to see how Peter Parker will be alive after he turned to dust at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.

3 . IT: Chapter Two
He is Pennywise the Dancing Clown and he is back to terrorise the children of Derry. The movie is set 27 years after its predecessor. In the film, the Losers’ Club return to their hometown to get rid of IT once-and-for-all.  Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader take on the lead roles, while the younger cast also returns.

2. Star Wars: Episode IX
Last year was not a good year for the Far Far Away franchise, after Solo: A Star Wars Story flopped at the box office. Lucasfilms will hope to redeem the franchise with J.J. Abrams set to return as the director.  Bill Dee Williams will also return as Lando. Not much is known about the film yet, but as with any Star Wars movies it is going to be big.

1. Avengers: Endgame
This is hands-down the most anticipated blockbuster of the year. No one knows what to expect from it, but we are all hoping to see our favourite heroes get brought back to life. Marvel has been building towards this film for 11-years and this might just be what we have been waiting for. With a larger number of the originals Avengers actors’ contracts coming to an end, there might be a few unexpected deaths on the horizon.

Honourable Mentions
Toy Story 4, Gemini Man, The Lion King, Rocketman, Frozen 2, Aladdin, Detective Pikachu, John Wick: Parabellum, Dumbo, Happy Death Day 2 U, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel.
