Taking the panther to the kids
Black Panther is a film that
has been making waves and this led to various organisations stepping up so
young people can see the movie.
The film is
the first to feature a black African man as a superhero in a lead role. It is
also known for empowering women through strong female characters and it
showcases a fictional side of Africa that can inspire the continent.
Ster-Kinekor
Namibia wants to play a part in inspiring young people through the film and
they have launched campaign for young people to go see the film on 3 March. They
have set up a Donate Today campaign page on PayToday to raise funds to enable
456 children and their chaperones to attend a screening of Black Panther.
They will
be partnering with Koi Church International, PayToday and The Patriot Newspaper
to make the event a possibility. SK will offer a free screening, while the
funds raised will be used to provide the children with refreshments.
All
donations will be solely used for the day and all activities. According to SK
they would like to make it memorable event. The children will also be treated
to a meal after the movie. This is not the first campaign for children to go
see the movie, other campaigns have gone viral on social media.
Frederick
Douglas founded #TheBlackPantherChallenge on GoFundME in January 2018 as an
initiative to take children from the Harlem neighbourhood in New York to go see
the film for free. The idea of the campaign is to show black children the rich
culture and diversity of Africa and to give them the opportunity to identify
with a superhero that looks like them.
Visit the
Donate Today page to make a donation and inspire young people of Windhoek.
