The Best of 2017
Ah the year
is almost over and that means the major movie season is behind us, besides big
films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Jumanji coming out next month, there
aren’t a lot of other movies to look forward to.
To commemorate
this year’s film, I’ve put together a list of the movies I think was the best.
This is not based on critic or fan reception, they just represent the films I
enjoyed the most. The list is in order of release, but I will reveal my
favourite movie at the end.
This year
had a slow start with movies; I think the first movie I saw was at the end of
January. So please enjoy this list and share it if you want to.
SPLIT
This move
fully deserves to be on my list and all other “Best of 2017” lists. This was
typical M. Night Shyamalan, with all the twists and turns. James McAvoy was an
excellent casting choice and he brought his best to all ‘characters’. I love
this film and I think it will always be something I remember. Well done, Mr Shyamalan.
The Lego Batman Movie
This is the
best Batman movie I’ve seen in years, it might even be better than The Dark
Knight Rises. It takes all the campy Batman stories and characters and turned
them into a stellar comedy animation. It is ideal for children and Batman
lovers. If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure to get it now. It will be perfect
for Christmas.
John Wick: Chapter 2
Not long
after The Lego Batman Movie, John Wick made his anticipated return. Though it
lacks a few emotional moments from the first film, it’s still awesome to see
Keanu Reeves kill a few (a lot of) bad guys. This movie has amazing action
scenes and left you wanting more.
Fist Fight
This movie
wasn’t perfect, but it was Hilarious.
Seeing Ice Cube and Charlie Day in a fight was the perfect way to kick off the
comedy movies of the year. Yes, it lacks a lot, but it is fun to watch.
Get Out
This has to
be one of the best horror films ever and it was so much more than I expected.
Jordan Peele made the perfect directorial debut. The movie is intriguing and it
has relatable themes. Get Out has a unique blend of suspense, drama, comedy and
horror.
Logan
Hugh
Jackman and director James Mangold kicked off the superhero genre this year and
they did it with a film filled with heart and gruesome action. This movie was
the perfect sent off for Wolverine and Professor X; even my mom enjoyed this
film.
The Case for Christ
This movie
was just perfect and it is definitely the best Christian movie to date. As a
Christian this movie really spoke to me and it revealed a lot to movie over how
faith can carry us. This is the perfect family movie and the casting choices were
outstanding.
Guardians of the
Galaxy Vol. 2
James Gunn
promised to give us another amazing movie and he delivered. Thought not better
than the first one, it definitely had a lot of heart. The film was funny, but
at the same time dealt with serious family themes. I love this movie!
Wonder Woman
Finally
2017 gave us a female superhero film and it was perfect. The DCEU has been
pretty much disappointing, but Wonder Woman gave us new hope. Patty Jenkins had
real vision for this film and Gal Gadot gave one of my favourite supehero’s
life.
Baby Driver
In a year
full of superhero movies and films, Baby Driver gave us something new and
original. Edgar Wright made his return with a movie that is just adrenaline
rush. The casting was perfect and all the scenes are just simply awesome.
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Marvel
finally got to take a crack at Spider-Man and it was perfect. It had a great villain
and an awesome Peter Parker, with Iron Man returning as his mentor. This is one
of the best web-slinger films ever and I am excited to see what’s next for the
young Avenger.
Dunkirk
A war movie
with an unknown lead actor, what was Christopher Nolan thinking? Well, he
definitely knew what he wanted and he gave us one of the best war movies of the
year. The film is inspiring and gives us a story we really needed.
Logan Lucky
We all wish we could strike some luck and that’s
why the Logan brothers decided to go get their own luck. This movie is well
written, well directed, well-acted, well, it’s just awesome. This movie really
captivated me and I will definitely love to watch it again.
It
This is not a movie about computers; it’s about
Pennywise the Dancing Clown and the children of Derry, Maine. It is a horror
masterpiece and a perfect interpretation of the Stephen King novel. This is literally
my favourite horror of all time.
Only the Brave
This movie
really made me emotional. Just when I stared to love all the fire fighters,
they are killed by some fire. Now I know it’s a true story, but it really got
me pushing out some tears. I love how they focused on making the audience love
the characters, but I’m saddened by the films ending.
Justice League
I know this
movie received a lot of backlash and the storyline sucked a lot, but it was a turnaround
for the DCEU. We finally got the Superman we’ve wanted and Ezra Miller was an
amazing choice for the Flash. Although I feel they dumbed down the Batman, I
still enjoyed the film
And here it
is, my favourite film of 2017!
Thor: Ragnarok
Neither
Thor nor Hulk is my favourite Avenger, but the two of them together in a space
comedy is the perfect combination. Director Taika Waititi made Thor something I
never expected, he made him interesting. The film is definitely my highlight of
the year and I know I will watch it over and over again.
