Music vs. Life
We all have
our favourite music genres and artists. We listen to music to help us forget or
remember. Music is part of each one of us and every heartbeat is a song to the
body.
I remember
growing up listening to legendary artist like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley,
Bob Marley, Dolly Parton and even hip-hop artists like Tupac or Eminem. Each
musician and each song spoke to me in a different way and every time it felt
more amazing than before.
My family
are not musical, but we all have a deep appreciation for music. I become a
journalist partly because of the influence music and entertainment had on me. I
dreamt about being an amazing songwriter like Michael Jackson or a great
performer like James Brown.
I just
never had the voice for it all and I knew nobody would listen to someone who
sounded like a Muppet or Teletubbie we got stuck in a lawnmower. That still did
not stop me; I tried writing and never looked back.
I used
musical influences like Eminem, Boyz II Men, R. Kelly and poets like
Shakespeare to help me become who I wanted to be, a writer. Not only did I
start loving putting letters into words to form sentences, but I also found a
way to express emotions in ways I never thought possible.
My meaningless
statements turned into poetry; which eventually changed into rap song and
finally it all turned into real music. Although I never let anyone hear them, I
finally had a way to express myself. Music made life better for me and it
became the one thing that helped my get through everything.
When I was
sad, music was there. When I got angry, music was there. Music was there
through the happy and exciting times. It gave me hope and strength when I was
at my lowest point. It gave me courage to fight and stand up for what I believed
in.
That is why
I believe there is always a battle between music and life. Life has its way of
dragging us down and pulling us away from our dreams and ambitions. Music on
the other hand can help us get up and motivate us.
I know I am
not the only who feels this way. Music vs. Life is an on-going battle and it
all depends on us and who want to win. Music is the one thing that unites
people across the earth and it is the one thing that can change your mood in
just a few seconds.
I hope
music will never die, even though modern artists are breaking it, it will
always find a way out. People cannot live with a rhythm and beat. Music is one
of the few things that keep me sane in a life that can easily drive me crazy. I
love music.
