The Boys are Back

The Dawn of the Seven is upon us and the Boys aren’t going to sit back and let them destroy more lives.

After waiting more than a year, Billy Butcher and his team are back to take on the Homelander and other members of the Seven, as well as the diabolical corporation, Vought. We’re only three episodes into the sophomore season and it has been awesome.

The show is simply brilliant and near perfect if you have to compare it to other shows in the same genre. Season 2 amps up the graphic violence, storytelling and other graphic scenes. Minor spoiler; prepare yourself for some racism, because Stormfront has landed.

Season one made me a fan of the show, but season two made me a fan of the whole franchise. I didn’t know much about the comic, but I dove right into the mythology after the previous season ended.

The show is staying faithful to the source material with a few tweaks here and there. The biggest change was turning Stormfront into a woman, but she turned out to be badass and close to her comic book counterpart.

The season kicks off with a bang, literally a bunch of bangs. Just don’t expect your favourite characters to have the same motives as they did in the first season. A lot of the characters really grew, even if they grew in the wrong direction.

The best thing is seeing how Homelander becomes even more sinister and controlling, but he’s not the only one playing that game. Butcher is back to being Butcher, while the rest of the heroes, anti-heroes and “super villains” are caught in the middle.

The only downside about the new season is that I couldn’t binge watch all eight episodes in one night, but at least I have something to look forward to every week. The show is definitely worth the watch. It’s hands down the best show of 2020 and one of the few good things that came out this year.

Superheroes are often as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and sometimes even as revered as gods. But that's when they're using their powers for good. What happens when the heroes go rogue and start abusing their powers? When it's the powerless against the super powerful, the Boys head out on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the Seven and Vought, the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. Based on the comic book series of the same name.

My Verdict

I was sceptical about the changes the producers made, but I think it paid off. This season is a huge improvement over an excellent first season. I really have nothing bad to say about the show, but I know a lot of people will be offended by it. If you like action, superheroes, graphic imagery and don’t get offended easily, then this show is a must watch. Just catch up on season one first.

My Rating: 9.9 out of 10 – Almost Perfect!
