Looking forward to 2018

Klerk – This year Hollywood will send a bunch of new blockbusters to the
silver screen and they will be looking to top the highest grossing films of
2017.
Last year
four films grossed more than US$1 billion and new records were set. This year
movie goers can look forward to bigger films that might drag them to the cinema
every week. To start off the year we will be looking at some of the most
anticipated films of 2018.
The Maze
Runner: The Death Cure
The third
movie in the franchise takes place directly after 2015’s The Scorch Trials and will be looking to build on its predecessors.
The new movie was supposed to be released last year, but production hit a speed
bump. The film will be released by the end of January.
Fifty Shades
Freed
The Fifty Shades of Grey saga is coming to a
close and with more drama. Christian and Ana are now married, but their lives
are not easy yet. The new film will have a pre-Valentine’s Day release.
Black
Panther
The new
comic book movie will have a mid-February release and will be the first black
superhero to have a blockbuster movie.
Tomb Raider
Lara Croft
is back on the big screen and this time Alicia Vikander will be in the starring
role. The video game based movie will be a reboot of the series and will see
Lara Croft take on one of her first missions.
The movie will be out in March.
Pacific Rim
Uprising
Following
the defeat of the Kaiju in the first film, the Jaegers are back to take on new
threats. The film will be out by the end of March.
Ready
Player One
Ever
wondered what it will be like when virtual reality became an actual reality?
The new Steven Spielberg film explores themes of virtual reality and war. The
film is based on 2011 novel and promises to be the film all pop culture fans
have been dreaming of. It will be out on 30 March.
Rampage
Another
video based game to come out this year is Rampage;
the Dwayne Johnson film will see the lead characters take on an oversized
gorilla, wolf and crocodile. The film is set to be released on 20 April.
Avengers
Infinity War
Voted by
various entertainment magazines as the most anticipated film of the year, it is
a culmination of 10 years of superhero films. The Avengers will face off
against Thanos, their biggest foe yet in this film and they will need all the
help they can get. Avengers Infinity War
will be out by the beginning of May.
Deadpool 2
After a
successful launch to the Deadpool franchise in 2016, the sequel will see the
titular hero make new alliances to take on a bigger enemy. The film is set to
be released in June.
Ocean’s 8
An
all-female reboot of the well-known Ocean’s heist movies will see the light of
day in June. Sandra Bullock stars as Debbie Ocean, sister of Danny Ocean. She
puts together a team to steal a necklace at the Met Gala.
Incredibles
2
Fans of the
incredible family super team have been waiting 14 years for a sequel and it is
finally here. The film is scheduled to be released on 15 June.
Jurassic
World: Fallen Kingdom
The fifth
film in the Jurassic Park franchise will see the main characters try to save
the dinosaurs from being extinct again. The film will see Jeff Goldblum reprise
his role from the original film. The film will be released on 22 June.
Robin Hood
The tale of
Robin Hood will once again be explored on the silver screen, with Taron Egerton
stepping up to take on the titular role. The film is scheduled to be released
on 21 September.
Venom
Tom Hardy
will take on the role of Venom an anti-hero and enemy of Spider-Man.
Information regarding the film’s plot is yet to be revealed. The movie will be
released on 5 October.
Mowgli
Another
adaptation of The Jungle Book will make its way to cinemas this year. The film
will focus on Mowgli’s survival in the jungle and how he overcomes all its
obstacles. The film will be released in mid-October.
Ralph
Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2
After the
success of Wreck-It Ralph, Disney is
moving forward with a sequel. Ralph meets new friends and must build new
alliances to fix a new game. The film will be released on 21 November.
Aquaman
The aquatic
supehero gets his first film with Jason Momoa in the starring role. Aquaman
must balance his life after he became the king of Atlantis. The film will be
released on 21 December.
Mary
Poppins Returns
Disney is
bringing Mary Poppins back, with Emily Blunt take on the titular role. The film
will be sequel to the 1964 film and will see Mary return to the Banks residence
to help them through a hard time. The film will be released after Christmas.
Bohemian
Rhapsady
The band
Queen will have their first biopic on the silver screen with Rami Malek staring
as lead singer, Freddie Mercury. The film will follow the first 15 years of the
band. The film will be released on 28 December.
